Al-Tiety Avenged his Cousin’s Murder in Petah Tikva

Jihad al-Tiety

By IOL Palestine Correspondent, Maha Abdul Hady

Palestine, May 29 (IslamOnline) – His name was Jihad al-Tiety, Palestinian, 18 years old, his address was Balata Refugee Camp, last thing he did in this life was a martyr operation that killed him, two Israelis and wounded 50 others in Petah Tikva, Tel Aviv, Monday, May 27.

He kept his promise to avenge the murder of his cousin Mahmoud al-Tiety - closest and most beloved person to him – who was the leader of al-Aqsa Brigades in Balata Refugee Camp. Mahmoud was assassinated by Israeli occupation forces, along with three of his companions Wednesday, May 22, 2002.

Several eyewitnesses, close to al-Tiety family, told IslamOnline Wednesday, May 29, that Jihad was the first to reach the scene of his cousin’s murder.

“He stood there, before Mahmoud’s body and the bodies of Emad el-Khateeb, Iad Abu Hamdan, and a third civilian from Balata. There, he vowed to be the first to avenge the assassination of his cousin,” said an eyewitness.

Jihad's Mother

For her part, Jihad’s mother, speaking through her tears, said she wished she could have a chance to bid him farewell.

“Jihad called me half an hour before carrying out the martyr operation, he asked me to forgive him. I was surprised, asked him where he was and when he would return home. He hang up quickly saying, ‘Please, mom, do not be angry with me. I cannot tell you where I am’.

“He called me again, saying one sentence. ‘See you in Paradise, mother’. Then, my heart ached and I knew Jihad was going to honor his promise to avenge his cousin Mahmoud. Jihad’s tears never dried since the Israelis murdered his cousin,” said the mother.

Her feeling turned into certainty when she was told about the death of her youngest son. She is a mother of ten.

Jihad’s eldest brother Saleh, for his part, asserted that his ‘beloved brother’ was filled with desire to avenge the Israelis for the atrocities inflicted upon “our family, last of which was what happened to me”.

Saleh is completely paralyzed, while his own son’s arm is cut off, due to an Israeli tank shell.

“Sadness kills me over the loss of my youngest brother. He was kind to me and very helpful, especially after what the Israelis did to me,” Saleh said.
