Egyptian, Syrian, Saudi leaders To meet In Sharm El-Sheikh On Mideast
CAIRO,
May 10 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak will host a three-way meeting Saturday with the leaders of
Syria and Saudi Arabia to review the latest developments in the Middle
East crisis, officials here said.
Syrian
President Bashar Al-Assad will join Mubarak in the Egyptian Red Sea
resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul
Aziz will link up with them later in the day, Agence-France Presse
(AFP) reported.
Their
talks will focus on "Arab moves to put an end to the
deteriorating situation in the Middle East and the results of Prince
Abdullah's visit to the United States," one senior official said
late Thursday.
Prince
Abdullah, Saudi Arabia's de-facto leader, has been pushing for an
initiative offering a comprehensive peace with Israel in exchange for
the Jewish state's withdrawal from all Arab territories seized in the
1967 Middle East war and a "just solution" for Palestinian
refugees.
The
Saudi initiative was adopted by an Arab summit that met in Beirut in
March 27 and 28 and was at the center of a meeting of Arab foreign
ministers late Thursday, May 9, in Cairo's Arab League headquarters.
The
Sharm el-Sheikh meeting will convene as Israel is poised to launch an
attack on the Gaza Strip, on the heels of large-scale military
operations in the West Bank, after a Palestinian martyr operation
Tuesday that killed 16 people near Tel Aviv.
