OCCUPIED
PALESTINE, May 6 (IslamOnline) - Palestinian resistance movements have
vowed revenge for the Jenin massacres, after Israeli demands
eliminated a UN fact-finding mission to the ruined West Bank refugee
camp.
The
Islamic resistance movement Hamas described the UN’s decision to
scrap a fact-finding mission to Jenin as “a biased decision to cover
up Israeli crimes.”
“The
United Nations is biased to Israel and covers up the Israeli crimes -
a stand which has shocked and infuriated the people of Jenin and all
world Muslims,” Hamas spokesman in Jenin, Sheikh Khalid El-Haj, told
IslamOnline.
“Had
this massacre been directed against Jews, would the world have kept
silent? Would the UN have called off the fact-finding team?”
El-Haj
confirmed Palestinian resistance is still strong despite the great
number of martyrs lost in the Israeli incursions. “Resistance will
rebuild itself despite the murder of 14 Hamas members, 3 Jihad members
and 6 Al-Aqsa Brigades members in the Jenin massacre,” he said.
“For
every action, there’s a reaction,” added El-Haj, emphasizing that
the people of Jenin shall never forgive the Israeli occupation army
for this massacre.
The
people in Jenin are still in high spirits, he said, adding that all
the people in the refugee camp are determined to resume jihad
and resistance.
He
called for backing the intifada as the sole choice left before the
Palestinian people, confirming that Hamas refuses to surrender and
refuses the abduction of resistance fighters, be they from the
Palestinian Authority or any other.
Colonel
Nayef Suweitat, a Palestinian official, confirmed that blocking the
fact-finding team from reaching facts about what took place in Jenin
leaves no doubts there were massacres and war crimes committed in the
refugee camp of Jenin.
Such
crimes, he added, must be investigated and those responsible must be
brought to justice, therefore, the resistance will revenge after a
period of reorganization and restructure.
Suweitat
sees the disbanding of the team as an American-Israeli conspiracy,
explaining that while the bodies of 54 martyrs have been identified,
18 are still missing, in addition to an identified number of people
arrested by the Israelis. Final numbers of victims can not be accurate
as there are many martyrs still under the rubbles, he added.
International
organizations are visiting the camp, in order to collect evidence and
documents sufficient to condemn the occupation army, Suweitat said.
What is needed is to confront and try to stop the American biased
policy, while working in all directions to bring Sharon to justice as
a war criminal.
“Disbanding
the team is a disgrace for the United Nations and the United
States,” said Gamal Al-Shaty, member of the Palestinian Legislative
Council. “We call upon parliments of the world to create
legislations that would enable their members to pressure their
governments to recognize those who took part in the Jenin aggression
as war criminals that should be tried,” he added.
Kofi
Annan should either call upon the international community to declare
Israel a country above the law or resign, he added.
Regardless
of the horrible aggression they faced, Jenin residents enjoy a high
degree of phsychological stability, as they consider what happened to
them a form of victory and courage, Al-Shaty said.
Concerning
the issue of rebuilding what was destroyed in the camp, Al-Shaty said
that a national committee was formed with the mission of
reconstructing the Jenin camp. Different subcommittees emerged from
the national committee to tackle various areas, such as documentation,
finance, public relations & media, health, and emergency
commitees, he added.
Another
national committee was formed, according to Palestinian President
Yasser Arafat’s orders, to investigate Israel’s crimes in the
Palestinian territories, Al-Shaty said. He added that the camp is
receiving aid from the town of Jenin, as well as other Palestinian
towns and Arab Israelis living in the occupied territories, in
addition to several Arab and international institutions.
Meanwhile,
the people of Jenin camp, who fought an eight day battle against the
Israeli army, before the latter invaded and destroyed the camp, have
started to regain their balance and search for their loved ones.
Moreover,
Palestinians have formed many public committees to provide food and
shelter to people, in addition to rebuilding the camp buldings and
infrastrucure that were highly damaged by the Israelis
