Leader Calls for Control over Martyr Operations for Palestinian

TERRITORIES, April 24 (IslamOnline) – Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the
leader and founder of the Palestinian resistance Hamas movement,
called Tuesday, April 23, for a change in resistance tactics, based on
a guerilla tactics, and for control over the self-sacrificing or
martyr operations to further serve the Palestinian cause.
Yassin’s
appeal was made during a symposium entitled “The strategies of the
Islamic movement in the current phase” and organized by the faculty
of scientific research in the Islamic University in
Gaza
.
He
said that the self-sacrificing operations should be controlled as
retaliatory tools against the occupation force, and that they should
only be executed in the right places, timings and conditions so that
they don’t harm the Palestinian cause and mobilize international
public opinion against them.
However,
he noted that all forms of resistance should continue against the
Israeli occupation army and the settlements.
It
is worth noting that the resistance leader constantly clarifies that
Palestinian activists don’t kill Jews because they are against
Judaism, but because the Jews are occupying Palestinian land and are
aggressors. He said that his family would have faced the same fate if
they occupied land that doesn’t belong to them.
During
the symposium, Yassin reiterated that the
U.S.
will continue to blindly support
Israel
and that Palestinians should not expect anything different. Concerning
the European countries, Yassin said that “despite
Europe
’s flagrant support for
Israel
, it still feels sorry for the Palestinian people and seeks to find a
solution.”
He
said that this obvious support for
Israel
is mainly due to the strength and political hegemony of Christianity
and Judaism and not due to what many claim as common interests and the
strength of the Jewish lobby. “The American policy is actually more
extremist than that of the Zionists and it absolutely despises
Islam,” he added.
Yassin
added that Arab countries are not qualified to support the intifada or
uprising of the Palestinian people against the occupation, due to its
complete submission to external pressures. “They chose a so-called
strategy of peace which we see as complete weakness and submission
that has nothing to do with profound peace,” he added.
He
said he was shocked that all Arab nations are incapable of standing in
the face of the enemy. “How can they propose a peace initiative to
the enemy giving up 80% of
Palestine
? The situation should have been reversed whereby the enemy should
have been begging them for peace,” he said referring to the
Oslo
accord.
He
pointed out that the intifada has successfully effected the enemy
which is living in fear and insecurity. “Now it is time for a new
tactic of guerilla war in which only a selected number of people can
participate, but everyone’s role will come at the right time. The
occupation forces got used to battling with Arab armies and ending the
wars in a matter of hours, but over the past one year and a half it
has failed to quell the popular intifada,” he added.
The
resistance leader recalled how
Israel
has constantly resorted to political deals such as
Oslo
, to quell the first intifada. “
Israel
is now seeking the same strategy of trying to put an end to this
intifada by resorting to new initiatives such as that of Mitchell,
Tenet and
Sharon
’s last peace conference proposal,” he added.
Yassin
reiterated that the strength of the Palestinian nation is in its unity
and that the Palestinians have to prepare very well to defeat the
occupation force. “However, victory is entirely from God.”
