CARCAS, April 13 (IslamOnline) - “Hugo Chavez doesn’t do what he is told, so he is out.” That’s how political analysts see the situation when businessmen together with the army intrigued to dethrone Chavez, the former President of Venezuela, and have Pedro Carmona as a substitute. It is noteworthy that 19 countries unanimously refused to recognize the new government.
The question is: ‘did Washington concoct the coup d'état to relieve
Chavez of his mission?’
The moment Chavez was elected President for Venezuela, he was keen on keeping good relations with developing countries , and he shrugged off America’s criticism .Thus, he insisted on visiting Iraq in 2000 to prepare for the OPEC Summit.
Chavez’ constant opposition to the American policy was the reason behind describing him as a pain in Washington’s neck.
Chavez denounced U.S. attack on Afghanistan, he also appeared in the Venezuelan Television carrying a photo for Afghani victims describing the attacks as atrocious “civilians are massacred indiscriminately”, in return U.S. withdrew its ambassador from Caracas.
Venezuela is the only country in Latin America that is a member in the OPEC. It also comes in the fourth position in producing coal. While Iraqi oil comes to the U.S. in 45 days, Venezuela’s comes in 5 to 6 hours.
The former Venezuelan President criticized vehemently the U.S. presence in Colombia and said it doesn’t only pose a threat to Venezuela , but to Brazil, Ecuador, and Panama as well.
The ousted President developed relations with what the U.S. regards as enemies, like Ziang Zemin of China in his visit in 2001. He also concluded a deal with Khameni of Iran in the field of agriculture and industry.
