Seminar On The Dialogue Among Civilizations: The Islamic World And Japan

MANAMA, Bahrain, March 11 (IslamOnline) - As part of the new initiative towards multi-layered relations with the Gulf countries, Japan's Foreign Ministry, along with that of Bahrain, will sponsor a gathering on the Islamic world and Japan, in Manama Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12 and 13.

The seminar, entitled "Dialogue among civilizations: the Islamic World and Japan", is to be attended by some 30 intellectuals of high repute from Japan, GCC states (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman), Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Yemen, as well as the Arab League.

Participants are expected to discuss and exchange opinions on topics like, "co-existence and interaction between Islam and the Japanese Culture", "Islam and international community" and "Islam and globalization".

It is worth mentioning here that the new initiative towards multi-layered relations with the Gulf states was announced by former Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yohei Kono. He announced the initiative in the Qatari capital, Doha, in January 2001, during his official tour to the Gulf States.

The aim of the seminar is to realize frank and active dialogue among intellectuals from Japan and Islamic countries. Participants hope discussions will help promote mutual understanding and closer cultural relations among the participant countries.
