Former Pakistani Intelligence Chief Wants Muslim-Communist Alliance
Report by IOL Correspondent
LAHORE, Pakistan, March 5 (IslamOnline) - Former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Director General Hamid Gel underlined that an alliance of former communists and Muslims from within Pakistan was needed against what he termed the "global imperialist coalition" to check further advance of the latter, according to a news report.
Speaking at "The Nation Forum" in Lahore Monday, the former ISI (Pakistani Intelligence) chief expressed the view that the imperialists led by the U.S. are all set to eliminate Muslims and the remnants of communists to establish their hegemony in the world. "The imperialist forces are spreading their tenticles through their agents in various countries to engulf the entire world".
The Muslims and socialists, therefore, should make a common cause against them, at least in Pakistan, to contain their influence, Gul stressed, adding global imperialism, based on exploitation, was the greatest danger to humanity.
If the forces opposed to imperialism do not get united now, they would have to live under terms and conditions dictated by the imperialist world, he said.
Talking about security threats to the country, Hamid Gul said that many fronts have been opened against Pakistan at the moment as certain powers are not happy with us due to our nuclear program and Islamic ideology of the country.
Gul apprehended that the ideology of Pakistan is in danger as foreign powers are bent on dividing the nation on sectarian and ethnic grounds. They are also exerting pressure on the military government to secularize the society. A negative campaign is being launched against our ideology which must be nipped in the bud.
He said that foreign powers would first divide us and then strike as they did in Afghanistan where they divided Afghans and then attacked them with the help of Northern Alliance.
About the current political situation in the country, Gul said that the idea of restoring real democracy in the country would not materialize unless Parliament is made powerful.
"Empowerment of people is not possible without empowerment of Parliament", he categorically said, adding it (Parliament) must not be under the shadow of any 'troika' as is being talked about in government circles.
The former general stressed the need to streamline election rules which, he said, should be applied uniformly to make way for the right people to come and contest elections.
To a question, Gul said that if Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif have committed crimes they must be punished but their parties should not be victimized for their wrong-doings. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow pace of accountability, saying justice delayed is justice denied.
