KARACHI, Feb. 26 (IslamOnline) - Pakistan's newswire Online International News network Monday released the facts behind the videotapes about the killing and kidnapping of Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl.
According to details, it was on February 19 in the middle of the night, three days before the handing over of the video- cassette, unknown persons contacted Online Bureau Office Karachi on the condition of anonymity saying , "video cassette containing the killing details can be provided but on the sole and never
breaking condition of anonymity."
To this Online Karachi Bureau Office contacted the Central Office New York and appraised the situation.
It was on Feb. 22 at 9 PM that the cassette was handed over to Online beneath the building of the Bureau office on the sole condition that it would be televised on International TV news channels.
On the spur of the moment, Bureau office informed the organization high ups in New York about the receipt of the cassette. The cassette was watched time and again in which the slaughter of Daniel with a sharp knife was filmed.
This 3 minutes and 16 seconds duration cassette has 4 episodes. In the first they have filmed message communication with Pearl. In the second episode they
have shown chopping of his head with sharp flat- faced knife. And on the third phase the killers have recorded their demands.
During this recording, they have shown atrocities being perpetrated on innocent children and women of Kashmir, Bosnia, Chechnya and Palestine.
After watching the video cassette and as the commitment with the givers Online authorities were informed in New York to release it for the International News channels. Authorities asked for patience for the time being and to wait for the response.
At exactly 10.15, the phone rang. Authorities were directed to proceed with cassette to the Sheraton Hotel. There you will find a man of international media waiting in the lobby of Sheraton Hotel. But it was asked with special stress when you reach the hotel do phone again to inform us.
It was 10.20 PM Regional Director along with the Crimes Reporter left for the Hotel. Before entering the hotel, they phoned the high ups in New York. It was
exactly 10.45 when both staffers of Online entered the Hotel.
A man clad in a pink shirt and jeans introduced himself as Mr. John asked about the cassette. "Have you watched that he had been slaughtered?", John asked.
John replied in affirmation.
"Are you certain that he has been killed" John asked. "Yes, after watching the video we can say that he is dead", replied Online staffers.
To this Mr. John nodded his head in such a manner, as he confirmed his death to somebody in the hotel.
In the nick of time there was a call from New York. Online authorities asked the Regional Director to pass on the mobile to Mr. John.
To this Mr. John talked to Online authorities. Again Regional Director talked to authorities and as per directives handed over the cassette from the Crimes
Reporter to Mr. John.
Meanwhile, Online Regional Director along with the Crimes Reporter talked to Mr. John for around Seven minutes. John's other companions who were sitting in the hotel, were pretending to have cups of tea but their eyes were focused on Online persons. They were all attentive to lip and body movement of the Online persons.
As soon as they gave the cassette to Mr. John they were back in the office. Just after their arrival in the office there was a call from New York. It was asked to wait for the call.
It was 2 AM when the crimes reporter left for the house. As soon as he left there was a call from New York. The Regional Director was asked to proceed to for the Hotel.
He reached the hotel where he was surrounded with a great number of officers and operatives from the CID, FBI, Police and other agencies.
It was learnt there that the man who posed to a media man Mr. John was in fact the head of the FBI team in Pakistan.
All the agency heads asked about the details of the cassette.
Earlier, the cassette givers who had contacted the Online Bureau Office for three days continuously has asked for US $ 2 millions without remuneration.
But Online office had refused saying it was asking for the moon to manage that much amount. On that unexpended delivery day had said, " this cassette is original we give it to you and we know how to get the money from you for it".
