OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, Jan. 27 (IslamOnline
& News Agencies)- At least two people were killed, including the female
bomber, and more than seventy people were injured in a bombing in occupied west
Jerusalem, news agencies reported Sunday.
The blast comes 24 hours
after the Israeli occupation army fired four rockets on the Palestinian town of
Beit Hanun in the northern Gaza Strip, and after Israeli tanks opened fire near
the Palestinian town of Khan Yunus in the southern Gaza Strip.
The bomber was a woman
student in Al Najah University in the West Bank town of Nablus, the first female
to carry out a resistance attack. The only confirmed Israeli casualty was an
unidentified man.
More than seventy people
were injured by flying glass and shrapnel and dozens more treated for shock,
Israeli occupation police said. Israeli emergency services claimed that twelve
of the injured were in serious condition.
Occupied Jerusalem police
chief, Miki Levy, told Israeli occupation army radio that according to initial
findings, the source of the blast was a bomber. No one has claimed
responsibility for the bombing yet.
Scenes of chaos reigned on Jaffa Road after the massive blast. Body parts of the
bomber were scattered in front of the Freimann & Bein shoe shop, AFP
reported. The explosion was reported in central Jerusalem at approximately 12:25
p.m. (local time).
Israel blamed Palestinian
President, Yasser Arafat, who is under siege by the occupation forces, for the
bombing, an Israeli government spokesman said. However, the Palestinian
leadership strongly condemned the attack, and repeated its calls for the U.S. to
send its envoy, Anthony Zinni, back to the region to oversee peace efforts.
