Report by IslamOnline Correspondent, Raif Fandai

KOSOVA, Jan. 23 (IslamOnline) – Undertaker Defense Minister for Kosova, General Agim Tchiko, has declared that units of Kosova Defense Army (TMK) will head for Afghanistan to participate in the peace keeping international forces there.

In press statements Wednesday, January 23, during his visit to units of TMK in the capital, Prestina, Tchiko said, “The first batch of Kosova troops will arrive in Afghanistan March 2002, and will remain there for a month. Our forces main task is to take part in peacekeeping inside the capital (Kabul)”.

Tchiko added that a second batch of Kosova forces will head for Afghanistan later, and their task “will focus on facilitating the distribution of medical and food aids to he Afghans”.

General Tchiko maintained that TMK has gained “great experience in guerilla war," although Kosova still has no official defense ministry. “That experience gives our forces the upper hand in their help to preserve security in the Afghan capital”.

He didn’t determine the exact number of Kosova fighters participating in the peace keeping mission. However, he maintained that sending TMK units to Afghanistan has been coordinated with National Alliance Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations.
