Hamas Website Hacked Again

WASHINGTON, March 6 (IslamOnline) - Internet browsers trying to visit Hamas' website Tuesday had a surprise waiting for them, as instead of taking them to the organization's website, site visitors were automatically re-routed to "Adults Only" pay per view pornographic websites, offering them indecent wares ranging from "kinki co-eds" to "Latina fetish."

While no has yet claimed responsibility for this latest attack in a war of cyber attrition, speculation has it that Israeli hackers retaliated after Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack in Netanya. The operation killed three Israelis and may have motivated the cyber attack.

Popular defacement mirror sites, normally quick in reporting hacks, also do not have a clue as to who might be behind the attack.

Information technology (IT) experts IslamOnline consulted opine that it could possibly be the handiwork of an Israeli hacking group called "m0sad". The group has a history of attacking Muslim websites, including most recently that of the Islamic Society of North America.

A few months back, in the midst of the ongoing Intifada, cyberbattles between m0sad and Muslim hactivists, namely WFD, G-Force and others, occurred on an almost daily basis.

Rumors currently circulated among hacking groups state that two of the original members of m0sad left the group due to personal problems and have begun initiating independent hacks.

In Gaza, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the spiritual head of Hamas, blamed Israeli intelligence agencies for the website attack. He told Reuters, "I'm telling them to die of their own fury," adding that, "They are trying to disfigure the image of Islam and Muslims"

"These are the people who are shedding our blood and massacring our people every day, so it is not difficult for them to do something like this. As much as their anger and fire rises, they will try all and crazy ways to extinguish it," he said.

Sheikh Yassin said that Hamas would seek advice from Internet specialists in order to block any future hack attacks.
