Jordanian Union Releases Names Of Those Dealing With Israel

by Tareq Ayyoub

AMMAN (IslamOnline) - A subcommittee of the Jordan Professional Unions, a stronghold of popular opposition against normalizing ties with Israel, has issued a long awaited list of Jordanian personalities and firms who are dealing with Israel.

Observers state the move is in clear defiance of repeated warnings by the government to the professional unions to refrain from such a move.

The list, published in al-Moqawamah (The Resistance), a semi-annual periodical magazine published by the professional unions, included names of journalists, businessmen, hotels, media agencies, private sector firms, travel agents and artists.

The list, made available to IslamOnline, comes one week after a serious warning by Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb to opposition unions and political parties to refrain from undertaking any step or plan undermining normalization of relations with Israel.

Abul Ragheb's warning came during a meeting held with leaders of opposition parties and professional unions last week.

The premier said that anti-normalization steps by professional unions and opposition parties have caused damage to Jordan's economy.

The professional unions list also comes as part of a wide-range Arab and Muslim campaign to boycott Israeli and American made products, especially after the starting of the Palestinian Intifadah in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The list includes names of well-known Jordanian journalists like George Hawatmeh and Abdullah Hasanat, former chief editors of the Jordan Times, the only English daily in Jordan; Sultan Hattab, a columnist who has visited Israel several times; Mustafa Abul Libdeh, chief editor of the Arabic daily al-Aswaq; Jihad Moumani; Dawood Koutab, a Palestinian journalist who established an internet radio station in Amman and Ghazi Saadi, a researcher who established an institution teaching Hebrew language.

Well-known artists Hisham Yanis, an actor who visited Israel with his troupe several times and Ibrahim Shahzadah, a television personality, also made the list.

The list also includes names of four deputies in Jordan's Parliament: Hamadah Fara'aneh, Ahmad Oweidi Abbadi, Mohammad Ra'afat, and Samir Qawar

It also includes former advisor to King Abdullah, Adnan Abo Odah; former deputy prime minister Jawad Anani; former minister Tayseer Abdul Jabir; former head of military intelligence Tahseen Shordoum; former foreign minister Marwan Doudin; television presenter and columnist Rami Khouri and current Royal Court Chief, Fayiz Tarawneh.

The list also includes the names of the following companies:

1) Century Group - owned and managed by Ziad and Omar Salah, dealing in the textile and gold electronics industry. The firm has Israeli partners.

2) Five Continents Travel Agency.

3) Jafar Kurdi Company - importing methyl gas from Israel.

4) Agriculture Fruits Company - an agriculture firm owned by Malouh Issa.

5) Abul Hai Majali Company - currently employing Israeli water and agriculture experts.

6) Petra Industrial Company - owned by Osamah Hussein.

7) Bacaloria and Ubeel schools.

8) Imperial Hotel - a four star hotel that agreed to host an Israeli embassy party.

9) Hilmi Armoush Maritime Company.

10) Zaid Ready Made Company - a textile firm.

The list also includes other firms and independent personalities.
