American Muslims Key To Bush Victory
CAIRO (IslamOnline) - "Washington Report" magazine says that newly elected U.S. President-elect George W. Bush should be thankful to American Muslims, especially Florida Muslims, for his electoral victory due to the great contribution the community provided for his success in the elections.
One of the top American political analysts, Paul Findley, author of “They Dare To Speak,” analyzed the role of American Muslims in the November election, commenting on their support for Bush.
Findley lost his congressional seat in the 1970s after publishing his controversial book, which asserted Zionist domination in the U.S. After publication, the Jewish lobby campaigned hard in his district against him and influenced voters to vote for another candidate. Findley has served in an elected government capacity since then.
Findley discussed the decision of the umbrella American Muslim Political Coordinating Council - Political Action Committee (AMPCC-PAC), coordinating several American Muslim organizations, to jointly endorse Bush as their candidate-of-choice for the Oval office.
"The Muslims of the U.S. have proved their solidarity and unity through their historical vote as one solid cluster," Findley said.
"Without the Muslim votes, Bush would have lost the elections," he added.
Findley supported his argument with statistics concerning the number of Muslims in the U.S., especially in Florida. He asserted that among America’s seven million Muslims, 3.2 million voted for Bush.
According to Findley, three main reasons mobilized U.S. Muslims to support Bush. The first was Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore's bias towards the Jewish state and his disregard for Muslim interests in Jerusalem.
Secondly, four American Islamic organizations - the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the American Muslim Council (AMC), the Islamic American Federation, and the Islamic Council for general affairs - mobilized Muslims to sustain Bush.
And finally, growing Muslim American political influence. Findley urged American political leaders to recognize the increasing power of the Muslims in the U.S. Furthermore, he recommended that the new U.S. president gain the support of American Muslims, especially now, after the growth of their political influence.
