Saudi Donates $26 Million To Families Of Intifada Victims
RIYADH (AFP) - Saudi Arabia has granted $26 million to the families of victims of the Intifada in the Palestinian territories, the official SPA news agency reported Monday.
"Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, head of the Saudi committee for the support of the Jerusalem Intifada has given instructions that $26 million be given to the families of the Intifada's martyrs and wounded," SPA said.
The donation was part of the fundraising campaign in solidarity with the Palestinians, which has reaped $66 million, of which Saudi King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah donated $10.7 million.
The oil-rich kingdom has also donated 30 ambulances, medical equipment and pharmaceutical goods to the Palestinians.
Since November, Riyadh has granted the Palestinian Authority $30 million and has contributed $250 million to two solidarity funds for the Palestinians worth a total of $1 billion.
Nine weeks of Israeli-Palestinian violence have left some 300 people dead, most of them Palestinians.
Saudi Arabia has evacuated 102 Palestinians wounded in clashes in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to be treated in the kingdom's hospitals. Two of them have died in the kingdom from their injuries.
