| Nazareth is located in the north of Palestine, 34 km east of the Mediterranean Sea.It is 400 m above sea level and is considered the childhood home of the Prophet Jesus.The Church of the Annunciation, seen with its grey, tent-shaped dome in the right of the picture, was built where Roman Catholic tradition holds to be the site where Mary was approached by the angel Gabriel and told she would be the mother of Jesus. Nazareth came under Israeli occupation on 16 July, 1948 (Palestinian National Authority State Information Service).Nazareth now has an estimated population of 60,000, the majority of whom are Arabs.
