| The checkpoint on the outskirts of Jericho. The Palestinian friend that took me to Jericho failed to notice the cardboard stop sign standing a couple of meters before the stand where the Israeli soldiers were stationed. He drove up to the stand slowly, and was loudly reprimanded by the Israeli soldier for not stopping where he was supposed to. My friend tried to explain to the soldier that he didn’t see the sign. He was punished for ‘talking back’ to the soldier by being told to park the car on the side of the road and to wait until he was allowed through. That episode took about half an hour in all. | 1/4 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
