| The city of Haifa lies on the Mediterranean coast in the north of Palestine. It was occupied by Israel on 23 April, 1948. In 1945 it had a total population of 138,300; 35,940 of whom were Muslims, 26,570 of whom were Christians, and 75,500 (54.5%) of whom were Jews. Today, it has a population of 267,800 (Palestineremembered).
