The Gardens of Haifa
 
The city of Haifa lies on the Mediterranean coast in the north of Palestine. It was occupied by Israel on 23 April, 1948. In 1945 it had a total population of 138,300; 35,940 of whom were Muslims, 26,570 of whom were Christians, and 75,500 (54.5%) of whom were Jews. Today, it has a population of 267,800 (Palestineremembered). Although the city is now formed of a majority of Jews, it still has a large Arab presence.  1/4
