Launching a nearly six-month mission, NASA's Phoenix Lander touched down on Mars's frozen desert on May 25, farther north than any previous spacecraft landing on the red Planet's surface. The landing came after a do-or-die plunge through the planet's thin atmosphere. The Lander completed a challenging sequence of events before its three legs reached Mars' frosty ground.
