BAN

MALAYSIA EXTEND ITS FULL SUPPORT TO THEN INTERNATIONAL HIJAB
SOLIDARITY DAY
SHURA
(Secretariat For The Lama Assembly Of Asia), TERAS (Institute
For The Malay Empowerment) and ISRA (Institute For The Syariah
Research And Development) all of which are based in Malaysia
express its strong protest on the headscarf ban imposed in
France and similar escalating moves by other European
governments.
We
strongly feel that the legislation passed by the French
government reflects its intolerance and extremist stand
against Muslim women in particular and the Muslims in general.
This
in our view negates the rightful freedom of Muslims to
exercise their own religion and clearly is a step backwards
intolerance within diverse races and religions of Europe.
The
French government's legislation to curb Muslim women to assert
their right to comply with the Islamic teachings in term of
their dressing is a clear act of splitting and widening the
gap between cultures within the European communities and
consequently will contradict its so call liberal principles of
secularism which it pronounces as its ideology.
We
call upon the European community and their politicians to
support the true spirit of religious freedom and to respect
the promotion of tolerance among different faith throughout
Europe. Failing this we envisage that European will fall
into the trap of extremism and intolerance thereby denouncing
its own cherished principle of peace and co-existence.
We
reiterate our abhorrence to the law enacted by the French
government and remind it that what it has done will nurture an
environment of hatred within its own citizens.
On
this day, 4th September 2004, pronounced as the
"international Hijab Solidarity Day" organised by
The Assembly For The Protection Of Hijab "Pro
Hijab", we express our full support and extend our
solidarity with the Muslim citizens and peace loving people of
France to advocate for the revoke of the headscarf banning in
France.
We
also stand firm in support with the Pro-Hijab campaign and
denounce the intolerance of the french government and condem
teh position taken by the European Court of Human Rights in
Turkey that has upheld the ban.
We
support the effort by the Pro_Hijab committee to overturn the
decision and call upon all Muslims and human rights advocates
and organizations to strengthen their resolve to assert the
rights of Muslims to comply with their identity as that
thought by the teachings of Islam.
