The
Assembly for the Protection of Hijab strongly condemns the
kidnapping in Iraq of French journalists Christian Chesnot and
Georges Malbrunot. Such actions undermine the peaceful
initiatives taken by groups such as Pro-Hijab to reverse the
Hijab ban in France, and other countries around the world.
“Pro-Hijab
strongly urges the kidnappers to release Mr Chesnot and Mr
Malbrunot unharmed and without delay. Religious intolerance
should be tackled using all legal and peaceful means, not such
extreme and illegal measures.” stated Rajnaara Akhtar,
Vice-coordinator of Pro-Hijab.
Pro-Hijab
calls on all those taking part in the 4th September
International Hijab Solidarity Day events in over 20 countries
around the world to support journalists and urge the
kidnappers to release them with speed.
