Not
only is the diversity in nature the secret of its breathtaking beauty, it is
also the secret to its sustainability. Conserving our ecosystems, wildlife, and
natural habitats is no longer considered a luxury; it is a necessity. What we do
to the environment affects us in one way or another.
IslamOnline.net
believes in the importance of increasing general awareness about conserving
natural habitats and the diversity present within them.
Allah
All Mighty says in the Noble Qur’an:
He
has created man; He has taught him speech (and intelligence).
The
sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;
And
the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration
And
the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice),
In
order that ye may not transgress (due) balance
So
establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance
It
is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures: Therein is fruit and
date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates);
Also
corn, with (its) leaves and stalks for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. Then
which of the favors of your Lord will ye deny? (55,
2-13).
To
promote our belief and commitment toward sustaining the Earth’s diversity,
IslamOnline.net’s Health and Science Zone has launched a special folder
titled, Nature’s Kaleidoscope: The Secret of Sustainability. This
folder will be regularly updated with material and experiences from around the
globe.
