Taking Kids to Family Camps

By Dr. Sano Moustapha

June 29, 2005

It is strongly recommended in Islam that parents spend some of their time with their beloved children, especially during the summer. This would help the parents to exchange views and ideas with their children about different issues and matters of their concern. It is a good idea to reward children with a comprehensive and constructive family summer camp.

Parents should take a friendly part in planning for a summer camp for their children. It is an obligation upon them to be concerned about the contents of the summer camp for their children in order to protect them from unwanted activities in the camp.

Parents should not interfere in all the details of the camp; that is, their contribution should not be in the form of dictating or deciding every single thing for the children. Parents should give children room to decide and choose from the activities that do not contradict Islamic teachings. May Allah grant all parents more wisdom in this matter.
