There is an erroneous
partnership between school- society, home and
family going on; and in the middle of it all is
the child. More and more parents are withdrawing
their children from mainstream education at a
time when many professional educationalists have
debated and questioned the reality of what we
call education today.
There have been many
teaching methods developed in the 20th century,
but few educational philosophies that challenged
the way in which we educate our children to go
on to leading meaningful lives and building the
society in which we live. Is education simply
about producing and extending the means of
production of a society, or about creativity and
leading productive and constructive lives? Join
us on our journey as we explore the nature of
the relationship between current schooling, and
personal-societal well-being.
The origins of the
word education reveal one theory of its
function: the Latin educare comes from roots
suggesting a “leading out” or “leading
forth,” with possible implications of
developing innate abilities and of expanding
horizons. But can education without the first
educators 'parents' achieve this goal and can
this goal be achieved without the hearts, hands
and minds of the students?
