Every now and then, the media highlights statements — even from high officials in Muslim or non-Muslim countries — criticizing hijab. Most of these statements attempt to cast doubt on the obligation of hijab upon Muslim women and to discredit its advocators.

At other times, it is niqab (face veil) that surfaces, and the question here arises whether it is an obstacle to Muslims' integration in their respective non-Muslim societies.
