Instructions to Authors

The editor in chief of the journal invites the submission of original scholarly contributions on any aspect of Islamic Jerusalem from the rise of Islam to present day.

1. Submission of Manuscripts

Contributions and editorial correspondence should be sent to the Editor in Chief, Journal of Islamic Jerusalem Studies, Al-Maktoum Institute Academic Press, 124 Blackness Road, Dundee DD1 5PE, UK. Manuscripts in both Arabic and English are welcome and should be between 5,000 - 8,000 words in length. Three copies should be submitted (with an accompanying disk if possible), typed double space, on one side of the paper only with margins of at least one inch (2.5 cm). Authors should not submit manuscripts that are under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors should reserve one full copy of their manuscript.

The journal publishes articles, documentations, reports, review articles, and book reviews. Books sent for review in the journal will be reviewed or listed there; those not reviewed cannot be returned. The journal also provides information, announcements, and reports on current and forthcoming events relevant to Islamic Jerusalem.

2. Preparation of Manuscript

A title page should be attached which includes the title of the article, the author’s name(s), and the author’s affiliation (including mailing address). The manuscript itself should contain the title of the article, but not the author’s name (to facilitate anonymous peer review). Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively; spelling, capitalization, and punctuation must be consistent within each article. All manuscripts should meet the standard requirements of the International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies.

3. Proofs

The publishers and editors reserve the right to copyedit and proof read all article accepted for publication. Copyedited manuscripts will be sent to authors. JIJS reserves the right to change the transliteration of all historical names, titles, and non-English terminology to bring them into conformity with its own style.

4. References

References should be numbered consecutively and appear as footnotes. They should contain name of the author, full title of book or article, place and year of publication, and page reference. Quoted unpublished material should have full location reference.

5. Copyright

Manuscripts submitted will be expected to contain original work and should not have been published in an abridged or other form elsewhere. Acceptance of a paper will imply assignment of copyright by its author to the Islamic Research Academy, but the author will be free to use his material in subsequent publication written or edited by the author provided that acknowledgment is made of Journal of Islamic Jerusalem Studies as the place of original publication.

6. Offprint

Twenty offprints of each article and two copies of book reviews will be available free of charge to the author. Authors may buy further offprints at reasonable prices.
