Kuwait Model Village for Sri Lankan Tsunami Victims

Kuwait
Joint Relief Committee, arepresentative body of several Islamic
charities
based in Kuwait, recently signed an MOU with the government of SriLanka to
establish a model village in Ollikulam, Kattankudi, in the
Batticaloa
district to rehabilitate families of the tsunami disaster.
This
village, with modern infrastructure, will consist of 120 houses.
The
government will provide the required land.
A
high level delegation of the Joint Relief Committee from Kuwait visited
Ollikulam
and inspected the site. The visit was arranged by former deputy
minister
Mr. M.L.A.Hizbullah.
Representatives
from Sri Lanka Jama'ath e Islami, Jamiyyatu Ansarus Sunna,and
Mercy Lanka also joined the team.
The
embassy of the State of Kuwait in Colombo coordinated the programs of
the
visiting delegation.
"This
would be the first project of this kind to be implemented in any part
of
the country to rehabilitate tsunami victims," said minister Hon. Dinesh
Gunawardana
M.P., addressing the signing ceremony.
