Islamic
Relief Worldwide's Pakistan office is responding to deadly torrential rain and
heavy snow, which has claimed 529 lives thus far in the country's North
West Frontier Province. Storms have destroyed 2,400 homes, damaged 3,700 more
and killed hundreds of livestock.
Officials
report that 7,000 people have been displaced in southwestern Balochistan,
while 4,000 are in urgent need of shelter in the affected areas of Pasni
Tehsil and the Gawadar district of Balochistan. Relief work is focused on
prevention of disease.
Islamic
Relief's office in Pakistan is coordinating its emegency projects on the ground
with the United Nations, and other aid agencies such as Oxfam and Concern.
