Yes... Indeed…The
children would have felt it. The special day,
for them to live; to love; to learn, was
organized by the Orphans Unit of mfcd (Muslim
Foundation for Culture & Development) on
31st of March, 2007 at Nagarodaya Hall,
Borella Sri Lanka. This Orphans’
Get-Together & Exhibition was sponsored by
Human Appeal International (U.K).
Mr. Justice Saleem Marsoof,
Judge of the supreme court of Sri Lanka , was
the Chief Guest of the Ceremony. Further, Mr.
Umar Idrees (Country Director-WAMY) and
Mr.Muhammed Muzzamil (Country Director –
Mercy Lanka) were Guests of Honor. As-Sheikh
S.H.M.Faleel, Lecturer Jamiya Naleemiya,
delivered the key note speech.
It was a very sensational
day for all of us. We lost our hearts in the
exhibits which were beautifully fabricated by
those children and kept in the corridor of the
hall (You could see the photos of some
exhibits in the photo gallery. Aren’t they
amazing??!!!).
The program started with
the recitation of Holy Quran and followed by
the welcome speech of Mr. Zafeer, CEO-mfcd Sri
Lanka. Then, Farshath, seven year old boy,
expressed his future ambition to the crowd.
After that, Sumaiya Izzadeen, fourteen years
old girl, recited a poem and requested the
Muslim Ummah to bring back her life & the
life of her Muslim brothers & sisters in
the world. Numaiza (14 years) did a nice power
point presentation on Pollution. Following her
presentation, Rija, 9 years old kid, sang a
song in English on basic pillars of Islam.
Next, As-Sheikh Faleel
delivered the key note speech. He pointed out
the difficulties faced by the orphans in the
society and urged the importance of caring the
Orphans. He further added that caring the
Orphans is “Farl Al-Kifaya”. If the
society fails in this duty, then the
individual should bear the sin of the failure
in the Day of Judgment. He motivated the
orphans by pointing out that the prophet
Muhammed him self was an orphan. He quoted
Quran verses & hadeeths regarding Orphans.
Following the songs of
Rifkiya and a group Qaseeda, chief guest
Justice Marsoof addressed the gathering. He
emphasized that orphans should be given not
merely a life but it should be a beautiful
life.
Then, Mr. Shazuly, Project
Officer of the Orphans Unit delivered the vote
of thanks. Before winding up the program, the
crowd unexpectedly heard a sound of the small
kid who started to sing from the back row and
came to the front. It was an emotional song
since she mentioned about how Tsunami made her
an orphan and how the organizers rendered the
help to uplift her life.
Surprisingly, Al-Haj. Fawz
(Proprietor- Rainco), a distinguished Guest at
the Ceremony who was seated among the
audience, voluntarily got up & shared
about his own experience. Though he was an
orphan with out having any wealth during his
childhood, he has established a reputed
industry in Sri Lanka due to his hard work. He
encouraged the children not to give up their
ambitions and advised them to work hard to
achieve that.
Orphans Unit of mfcd
Sri Lanka follows a different modus-operandi
in caring the orphans who come under its
wings. It does not run an orphanage rather the
orphans are with their guardians. Continuous
evaluations and sponsoring are done frequently
by them.
Insha Allah, I will post an
exclusive interview with Mr. Shazuly, Project
officer of the unit, about the methodology
they have adopted.
