A Lie has a certain amount of weight with those who wish to
believe it.

I find it ironic when the muslim press, in particular the
arab Al Jazeera, complains about the "western press" not
presenting balanced reporting on Muslim-U.S. dealings. The
U.S. press has bent over backwards to present the public
here w/ positive images of muslims in america and abroad.
Indeed our government leaders have attended many muslim
ceremonies over the last 4 months.

Contrast this with how the Arab press reports current
events. Egypt and Saudi papers still report that the WTC
bombing was an Israeli conspiracy-- these so called
journalists ignore all of the evidence which demonstrates
arab handiwork. Unfortinately, it appears to Americans
that the muslim world is so blinded by hatred for Israel
that they are willing to foresake an honest examination of
the facts and history surrounding the terrorist attack.

As an American, I cringe when the arab street blames U.S.
foriegn policy for bringing terror to our shores. This is
the moral equivalent of blaming a woman for being raped
because she wore a short skirt. Of course in certain
Islamic cultures, wearing a short skirt may be punishable
by death-- but I hope to address the more progressive
muslims here. It is not necessary to defend every american
foriegn policy fiasco to agree in principle that terrorism
will never be an acceptible substitution for diplomatic
mediation and negotiation. I harbor no ill will towards
Islam but i am supprised by the silence comming from the
muslim world in failing to unconditionally condemn the
attack.

Unfortunately, Americans have been exposed to a lot of
radical muslims who have explicitly stated it is thier aim
to kill innocent Americans and gain as many converts to
Islam as possible. How would the Muslim world react if the
roles were reversed? What if there were a horrible attack
in Mecca that killed 5,000 innocent muslims. And suppose
the Christian world supported the Christian terrorist-- we
justified the Christian based terrorism based on the
foriegn policy of radical muslim states, whom we blamed for
the loss of millions of Christian lives in Countries like
Sudan. Would the Muslim world stand by passively? 95% of
Americans support our Presidents use of military force to
root out arab-backed terrorism anywhere in the world in
which it seeks to hide. 95% of Americans have never agreed
on anything. Our resolve to see this through is infinite
and complete. We anticipate more attacks at home, but
these attacks will only strengthen our resolve.

I hope that the rational voice of the Islamic world will be
heard... Americans have no interest on forcing our culture
or values upon Islamic nations... but we expect the same
courtesy in return. If this conflict should spiral out of
control I am afraid you will find as many American militant
radicals as you do Muslim... it will get ugly indeed. Let
us work toward peace instead through open and honest
dialogue rather than demonizing the other side.
