The blessed days of Hajj are approaching and Muslim
pilgrims are now preparing to travel to the holy places.
The memories and spiritualities of Hajj are really moving.
One cannot keep back tears when looking at this magnificent
gathering that is heading to the house of Allah in total
submission and devotion. The pilgrims supplicate humbly
asking Allah to wipe out their sins, and to accept the
pilgrims and grant them happiness in this world and the
hereafter.
But should all these awesome feelings be restricted to the
few days of Hajj? I always think of Hajj as a journey
intended to guide us to lead our large journey, our life.
Take for example the first steps pilgrims do at the very
beginning of their journey. They pay off their debts and
bathe themselves. This inspires us to lead a life based on
purity and cleanness. Also, in Makkah the pilgrims recall
the sacrifices of Ibrahim and Isma`il (peace and blessings
be upon them) and those of Prophet Muhammad (peace and
blessings be upon him) and the Companions (may Allah be
pleased with them all). Thus, we have to keep in mind that
our larger journey, our life, necessitate sacrifice and
striving.
I think this approach of connecting both journeys (Hajj and
life) is a good way to maximize the benefits gained from
Hajj. If you have further ideas or reflections on how to
relate between Hajj and life, please share them. Who knows,
they may change someone for the better.
