I was keen to read Howard F Jeter article on the above
subject in Daily Trust of Thursday 27, March 2003. Because I
still don’t understand the rationale behind the current
hostilities in Iraq, I thought ambassador Jeter would clear my
doubt and justify the current crisis, dropping tomahawk,
cruise missile in villages, markets. Killing innocent Iraq
children and women in the name of liberation. Instead of
answering questions, ambassador Jeter’s piece raised so
many questions supposed to be answered by U.S authorities.
Jeter began with complain of Iraq defiance of 17 UN
resolutions on its disarmament for period of 12 years and
refusal to comply with resolution 1441.
UN resolution 1441 had made provision for nuclear, biological
and chemical weapon inspectors, the former team, headed by
Muhammed El-Baradi of IAEA while the latter by Hans Blix
both team had men in Iraq supported by sophisticated
surveillance equipment, both men have been frequently
presenting report to the UN security council as prescribe by
resolution 1441. Report from both team indicates Iraq
cooperation El-Baradi had admitted in his report that Iraq had
no nuclear weapons as claim by the U.S. while Blix told the
security council that his men have not found any biological or
chemical weapon in Iraq, Blix went further to praised the Iraq
regime for it cooperation which saw the destruction of Al-
Samud missile.
Mr. Jeter, how many UN resolutions had Israel defied ? Why is
the US not taking such measure against the Jewish state of
Israel?
Secondly ambassador Jeter based his argument for war on
refusal of Saddam Hussein to comply with US directive to
leave Iraq within 48 hours.
This had never happen in the history of United Nation and the
world, where a president of one country ask the president of
other country to leave his country or face war, which world
are we? Are we in the world of jungle?
Iraq is an independent sovereign state, a member of UN as
the US and it is a violation of UN charter for Bush to order
Saddam to leave his country simply because Bush and Blair
doesn’t want to see his face.
Thirdly, Mr. Jeter played with the intelligence of his reader by
the saying "president Bush is personally very committed to
seeing peaceful co-existing between Israel and a future
Palestine state" we heard the same slogan prior to the attack
on Afghanistan the so called road map to peace is nothing but
deceit.
Fourthly Mr. Jeter assertion of the war as liberation of Iraqi
people cannot be justified, how do you liberate people by
dropping thousand of bomb on them, the US is killing Iraqi
civilians with air raid and heavy artillery bombardment, killing
innocent women and children, what manner of liberation is
this!
The truth about the conflict is, America is the largest oil
consumer while Iraq is the second in oil deposit in the world.
Bush invasion of Iraq is to satisfy US quest for oil, as well as
transferring the Iraq oil field to US oil firms, this could be
justified by the support of the war by US oil firms with billions
of dollars
Right from the onset president Bush told the world of his
readiness to carry a pre-emptive strike on Baghdad without
the approval of UN Security Council. We are all living witness
on how US deceived the UN with deceptive intelligence
information to the inspectors in order to justify war in Iraq,
when this failed bush ordered the inspectors to leave Iraq
even Blix described as "sad".
On Thursday march 23, 2003 president Bush defied the UN
and public opinion to carry out his plan of wiping out Iraq
from the surface of earth.
